A Longview Furniture Tradition Since 1947
Two brothers — Howard and Ray Edelman — returned home from military service in World War II (Howard served in the Army Air Corps and Ray was a Marine) with plans to attend college and become pharmacists. However, after working at local furniture stores, their bosses recognized they were “naturals” in the business. With their encouragement and a loan from their parents, the brothers opened a furniture store in the newly developed Greggton area. Their timing was ideal, meeting the post-war demand for quality home furnishings as families grew throughout East Texas.

On November 18, 1947, Howard, 26, and Ray, 22, opened their store with a simple handshake lease from a local building owner. On opening day, they sold their entire inventory and secured multiple orders for future deliveries — a remarkable beginning for what would become one of the region’s most trusted furniture destinations. While Ray’s wife, Audrey, managed administrative tasks in those early years, the brothers focused on delivering exceptional customer service and helping their neighbors create warm, inviting homes.

A Larger Longview Furniture Showroom
As the business grew, so did the need for more space. In 1962, the store moved to its current 10,000-square-foot Longview showroom — five times the size of the original location. The expanded space allowed them to showcase a wider selection of solid-wood furniture, a nod to their family’s heritage.
Their father’s experience in a sawmill instilled a lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship and the enduring quality of real wood — a commitment that continues to define Edelman Furnishings & Design today.
This focus on durable, well-crafted furniture helped establish Edelman as a leading ArkLaTex furniture store known for quality and personal service.

Second Generation of Furniture Expertise
When Howard retired in 1987, Ray’s son, Tom, joined the business. A TCU marketing graduate, Tom brought a modern perspective that complemented Ray’s decades of experience in furniture design and production. Together, they guided the store through evolving styles, growing customer expectations, and shifting trends — all while keeping personalized service and high-quality furnishings at the heart of the Edelman experience.

Expanded Interior Design Services for the Longview & ArkLaTex Region
Following Ray’s retirement, Tom began expanding the store’s interior design services to better support clients looking for cohesive, beautifully styled homes. This next chapter accelerated when Principal Designer K.J. Gleason joined the team. K.J. introduced a fresh, curated approach to the design process as he and Tom elevated Edelman’s selections to include premium accent furnishings and interior décor that complement the store’s custom furniture.
This evolution positioned Edelman’s not only as a trusted Longview furniture source, but as a true design partner, helping clients bring their visions to life with pieces thoughtfully selected for the way they live. As clients increasingly turned to the team for help with everything from décor updates to full-room designs, the name Edelman Furnishings & Design emerged as the natural expression of what the company had become.
